Stian Westerhus

Krems Halle 2 Halle 2

Program text

On his latest work the exceptional guitarist and neo-singer Stian Westerhus delves into the sombreness of amputation, interpreted as a metaphoric vehicle for music full of scars. Harmonious minor chords are broken by distorted electronics, while his angelic vocals remind us of Thom Yorke or tragic artists like Sparklehorse singer Mark Linkous and Jeff Buckley. He masters a broad emotional spectrum, from melancholy and desperation to catharsis. Voice becomes liquid; the guitar dissolves or spirals to painful heights, getting on without almost any rhythmic pattern.
