Program text

In his Julius Eastman Memorial Dinner project the musician Jace Clayton, better known as DJ /rupture, pays tribute to the Afro-American minimal composer. Eastman was a companion of Morton Feldman and John Cage in 1960s New York but died in poverty and forgotten. Recently he has been rediscovered as a central figure of the avant-garde scene. Clayton interprets the piano pieces Evil Nigger and Gay Guerrilla with vocal punctuations and software-generated layers. Two pianos provide ethereal vignettes for Clayton’s live electronic processing.
