Dries Verhoeven: Thy Kingdom Come

With the interactive performance-installation, “Thy Kingdom Come”, by the Dutch superstar of new, experimental forms of theatre, Dries Verhoeven, the Stadtpark Krems will become a new festival centre. The artist’s internationally acclaimed works leave the conventional territory of the theatre; they are installation settings where the visitors become part of the communicative and performative game. Whether in a hotel installation, at an internet café, on a city walk with migrants or in an improvised cinema, the visitors are never part of an anonymous group of voyeurs, but always have a direct line of communication with the performers, whether face-to-face, via mobile phone, headphones or the internet. The fragile, ephemeral magic of his performances arises from a game blurring the boundaries between perception and communication, closeness and strangeness, reality and fiction.
“Thy Kingdom Come” is a private encounter in a construction trailer. In an intimate, exciting, yet entirely non-intimidating situation, one visitor and one stranger will wait together for the performance to start. When one of them begins to speak, then these will be exactly the words he/she has always wanted to hear.
