femous orchestra

2011 marks the 100th anniversary of the International Women’s Day. Susi Rogenhofer aka Sweet Susi, host of Vienna’s Dub Club, and Silvia Jura are using this occasion to, literally, blow their own horn. 100 events should carry the “femous” stamp this year, and since hardly any other musical genre is more male than military marches, the femous-women commemorate composer Ethel Smyth. Because in 1911, Smyth wrote the “March of the Women” which became the hymn of the English women’s movement. The femous orchestra, led by artists such as Mia Zabelka, Chra and Célia Mara, brings together musicians, composers and performance artists from all over the world who will march in for this year’s festival opening and later on support John Cale on stage.
