Gonjasufi & Band

Former rapper Sumach Valentine used to be part of San Diego’s Masters of the Universe crew; today the professing Sufi has an interest in mysticism and earns a living as a yoga teacher. After, under the name of Gonjasufi, he had showcased his voice on the track “Testament” by highly acclaimed Flying Lotus, he last year delivered an impressive blend of electro-hop beats, Arabic music, verve-jazz, psychedelic folk and soul on his album, “A Sufi and a Killer”. The Guardian described his music as “a cosmic headtrip sounding like Screamin' Jay Hawkins covering M.I.A., as remixed by Portishead. In a good way.” Word!
