We can expect to see some great art when Godspeed You! Black Emperor’s David Bryant and Jonathan Parent from Fly Pan Am (Constellation Records) and Set Fire To Flames (Alien 8) join forces with Growing’s Kevin Dora and film artist Karl Lemieux to present their multimedia project Hiss Tracts. Lemieux is co-founder of the experimental film collective “Double Negative” which, in its manifesto, denounces the division of the film industry into “consumer=patient” and “producer=pharmacist”, proposing instead the model of the “alchemist” for filmmakers. “We promote accidents, discoveries, and failures; processes that lead into unknown landscapes; the fleeting tangibility of mystical and transformative forces; and the begetting of delicate, precious objects in the dark,” as it says there. During Hiss Tract’s live performances Lemieux manually transforms the celluloid loops from his found-footage library, which are screened on several projectors, beyond recognition by painting, scratching or cutting them up, while receiving musical support from the others in the form of reel-to-reel tape loops and electronic sounds.
