James Blake

The first hype of 2011 pays a stopover visit to the donaufestival. James Blake, the 22-year-old beau from London, who is set to arrive at the festival with his band in tow, celebrated his breakthrough with last year’s minimalist and fragile cover of Feist’s “Limit To Your Love”. Seemed like that’s what the world had been waiting for. But his dubstep, with an added extra portion of soul, meanwhile splits the community of purists who don’t want to see the “post” prefix, which next to Blake has also been attached to producers like Untold or Joy Orbison, in front of their future music. The “electronic composer” – who like John Cale studied at Goldsmiths – not only knows how to twiddle knobs, he also has a very tender voice and has played the piano since he started primary school. It’s up to you to call this selling out or making good use of one’s sonic-fictional potential. Songwriting or club tunes? Let’s argue? Let’s dance!
