If you had to place London duo Mount Kimbie’s debut album, “Crooks & Lovers”, into the right section at a record shop, you’d probably end up for hours euphorically, yet cluelessly pacing up and down the genres. If any genre at all, these sexy, hazy sound clouds, which in their smooth ambiguity exude an undefinable pop appeal, could be sorted somewhere between indie-electronica and post-dubstep. Because the tracks that were recorded merely with an analogue sampler, a microphone and a guitar don’t drown in an indifferent or over-intellectualised ocean of sound, but, with their tropicalia elements, are rather geared towards the dance floor.
