The Irrepressibles
Hailing from London, The Irrepressibles refer to a long tradition of eccentric artists: Kate Bush, Queen, David Bowie, Fischerspooner or spectacle artists such as Matthew Barney, Klaus Nomi or the ornamental aesthetics of dance film director Busby Berkeley have all inspired their work.
Led by Countertenor Jamie McDermott, the ten-piece ensemble stages exceptional performances of catwalk choreographies and Broadway musicals. They describe their own shows as “moving installations” and “performance sculptures”. And it is definitely not a coincidence that in so doing they join in with the prevalent genres in contemporary art – moving image installation and performance.
