It’s not a disco ball that’s turning here. But still, rays of light wander through the room. The reflections come from the movement of a mirrored plastic band, which rotates around its own axis in a minute’s time. The motor slowly winds up the dangling band – that’s the moment of suspense in turning and falling. Then the whip-like discharge, the twitching tumult of the light, the subsiding swing. The cycle starts over again. Time accumulates and collapses; kinetic energies become moving image.
