The latest work by composer and violinist Galya Bisengalieva addresses the ecological catastrophe on the planet and its consequences for the survival of humankind: It deals with the depletion of the Aral Sea and its transformation into the Aralkum Desert. Born in Kazakhstan and now based in London, Bisengalieva has collaborated with Steve Reich, Radiohead, and Frank Ocean, and leads the London Contemporary Orchestra. In Aralkum she laments the destruction of nature and habitats with cold drones – and yet, in the end, incites hope for a better future.
