How can you still create beauty from chaos and an impelling rhythmic pulse from distorted, quivering structures? These are questions that Katharina Ernst poses in her musical projects. The Viennese drummer has played in theatres but also on parking lots and in factory halls; she has performed in free jazz ensembles and with dance companies and the techno band Ventil. For her, minimalism and uttermost complexity are no contradiction; constant crossfading between aesthetic extremes is the motor of her improvisation.
