SOUND
Melancholic minor chords on the guitar, a god-fearing, gurgling Gregorian choir, along with a rhythm of looped scraping, sanding, grinding noises: This or the like is how the music sounds to which Benjamin Shaw sings about self-hatred, hating other people, beauty and failure with his skilfully weary voice. In his own words, he says that he writes “hard to digest pop songs about sadness and stress”. At donaufestival the Melbourne-based singer and producer presents his new album Megadead.
