You can pick out his guitar amidst the sound of a hundred others, so singular, powerful yet fragile, brutal and vulnerable, the unmistakable technique of Norman Westberg. In the 1980s he was a founding member of Swans, and once again in the line-up in the penultimate incarnation of the band in the 2010s. But Westberg has employed his instrument in many other constellations, from industrial to folk; as a soloist, he processes his guitar with drum machines and electronic filters to create vexatious disharmonies and songs that pierce into the depths of the ear and body.
