Program text

Tag it voodoo music from the future: the sounds and images of British singer and producer Nwando Ebizie create alternate worlds and new myths; she melds the music and rites of the Black Atlantic and the Black Diaspora with Afrofuturistic science fiction. Her beats twitch between tribalistic drumming and techno; her vocals might stem from ecstatic spirit incantations. Certain summoned spirits are astronauts from distant stars; others dwell in our subconscious or deep underground. “It is a work of Proto Persephone” – begins her album debut The Swan. Persephone is the goddess of death, the underworld, and fertility in the Greek pantheon.
