agar agar

agar agar is an audiovisual performance by Martina Moro and Fabian Lanzmaier. Combining analogue and digital tools they generate a system with its own dynamics and dependencies, where the visual and auditory parts influence each other resulting in a synesthetic experience. agar agar is a performative instrument, a miniature stage, that under many spotlights, reveals an ecstatic choreography of patterns interacting with each other.

A vessel containing black liquid forms the centrepiece of agar agar, the audiovisual performance by Martina Moro and Fabian Lanzmaier (not to be confused with the French synth-pop duo of the same name). Audio signals cause the liquid substance to vibrate; light objects cast their reflections onto the vibrating surface; a camera projects the resulting patterns onto the screen in large scale. This way, a volatile interplay develops between sound and light, matter and chance – a kind of live painting with sound that continually evokes new associations.
