DeForrest Brown, Jr.

In this mixture of lecture and deep listening session Brown, Jr. elaborates on the themes and concepts behind his debut book on the Black history of techno, Assembling a Black Counter Culture (2022), and his album Techxodus (2023). Envisioning Afrofuturism as an operating system for engineering the future, Brown, Jr. will discuss the mythscientific aspects of Detroit techno as well as his collaborations with visual artist Abu Qadim Haqq that expand techno beyond dance music into techno-vernacular worldbuilding.
