This music promises healing, and it brings comfort. With his powerful saxophone playing, Shabaka Hutchings has had a significant influence on jazz in the last decade, combining tradition and modernity, jazz, rock, electronics and Caribbean and African styles in his bands Sons of Komet and The Comet Is Coming. On his solo debut Perceive Its Beauty, Acknowledge Its Grace, he now plays exclusively on flutes and clarinets and is accompanied by harps and modular synthesizers: warm, flowing, oceanic music inspired by Alice Coltrane and the spiritual jazz of the seventies.
