With their beguiling devilry, The New Eves come across as if they’ve stepped straight out of a forgotten British folk myth. The Brighton quartet twists the usual genre spectrum into something warped and psychedelic, archaic and post-punk. Polyphonic (spoken word) chants undermine traditional notions of femininity dating back to Adam and Eve. Inspired by contemporary horror films, the rituals of these new Eves pay no heed to traditions, rather invoke their demise: freak folk in witch’s garb.
