Description
When Hans Joachim Irmler from the Krautrock legend Faust was searching for a backing band for a 2021 gig in Beirut, he got in touch with some figures from the local underground scene. The one-off collaboration soon evolved into an autonomous ensemble that pursues overlaps between Arab-Levantine musical traditions and Krautrock/psych rock. SANAM’s stirring songs wander between floating, magical reduction and fragmented textures. The resulting dissonance can be read as an echo of the upheavals in their homeland.
